3D-Printing Lord of the Print's Godzilla Model!

As part of our ongoing adventures in 3D printing, we're putting a spotlight on artists who design specifically for hobby printing in mind. We're starting off with the prolific Lord of the Print, whose Patreon release includes beautiful dragons and characters that are awesome at tabletop size or scaled much larger. Norm walks through his process to prep a godzilla model for printing, and tests a new wash and cure machine that can fit a kaiju-sized print!

Can you do a video on - different cameras (ie- Sony , Nikon , canon etc) which lenses to buy for >indoor< shooting for Cosplay events, because it’s been one of the biggest problems , exsample - the A6000 overheats or the lens cost £1000 for higher F stops or the Ax53 4K has slow autofocus) like recommend (to different budgets) what to use thanks 🙂

I wonder how the translucent resin would work for painting if you created one of those holes in the mouth so that you could pour in a colour that you would then slosh around to coat the inside... giving a translucent but colour skin effect?

My 2c worth - I’d be putting the holes on the lowest part of the cavity instead. In this case it would be the tail nearest the build plate. The main reason for this is that the cavity acts like a suction cup as it pulls off the FEP. This can cause the model walls to flex inwards as it pulls up and then push outwards as it plunges back down into the resin and leave unwanted lines on the model surface. The holes let it breathe and takes those forces off the model walls.

All for 3D print technology but beginning to wonder if we're not further painting ourselves/the planet into a toxic corner with the practice of "dissolving resin" ... which (from the sound of things) could be easily finding their way into the wild/nature. That said, are there any known protocols or manufacturer-suggested protocols, that explain how to properly dispose of the tainted chems that are used in the wash and cure machines seen in the video(?)

on taking off the supports try leaving the print in longer in the solution it will make the supports come right off by barely touching them. I wouldn't know the exact time depends on the print amount of supports etc but I usually do 45 mns to an hour and your print will thank you for it.

According to Anycubic's user manual, you can simply leave the washing container in the sun and any resin in it will cure. You can then filter out the solids and continue to use the fluid that's left. I've only used it for a handful of prints so far, think it will be quite a few more before I need to do anything with it

Norm ... do you have only TWO holes to enter from the foot and drain from the mouth? if not ... why not have four holes ... mouth, both feet and tail to insure full draining?

  56. Xen- Morph

    Xen- Morph

    25 päivää sitten

@Norm, although you did add some holes, you did not put them in the places closest to the buildplate, and you still can get a blowout and a damaged print.\ You were lucky with this model, but thinner models will get blowout holes, because of the hollow pressure buildup.

    • kendokaaa

No manufacturing process is that simple. Gravity makes it impossible to build up material onto itself without some sort of support structure which is either automatically generated (for resin printers, mediocre results with lots of manual adjustments) or manually placed. A lot of what you mentioned (messing around with supports, drainage holes, etc) is specific to some 3D printing technologies like SLA (resin) so FDM (filament) isn't quite as involved, with automatic supports (with some settings changed) usually being enough. Some things just cannot be made entirely effortless like home appliances.
